This is my favorite restaurant in the area. The food is imaginative and very good. I do not go there because it is vegetarian. I go there because they have the very best food around (in my opinion). There is a good wine list. The service is friendly and the atmosphere relaxed. There is an outdoor eating area which is nice even though the view is mostly parking lot.

The Great Sage gets a big “thumbs up” from me. Great, tasty, health sustaining food. Pleasant upbeat atmosphere. My family enjoys the dining experience here. And when I have guests come to Howard County, Maryland this is one of the dining places that I say try. Much Thanks!

Overall, it’s very strong - but sometimes the entrees can be hit or miss. I’m willing to forgive almost anything though, because of their AMAZING fresh tomato soup!

This is the best vegetarian restaurant around. Good enough that my wife and I make the trip from Beltsville with friends in tow.

Not only delicious and healthy, but one of the few places around that allows well behaved dogs on the patio. So you can dine in good health with your best friend!

Heaven for us dairy-free diners! Super spot to lunch solo with a good book, or meet a friend for a long lingerer. Shop the equally great “Nest” (next door) for nice hostess gifts, unique things for the home, thoughtful cards, organic cotton clothes, yoga gear, cool fair-trade pottery, etc. Then stop at “Roots” (on the other side of Sage), our own mini Whole Foods-ish store!

Tried the great sage and for all the hype it just didn’t pan out. The restuarant was quaint but the service was terrible. The food was just mediocre. If this restuarant got best vegitarian restuarant 2005 please, find the original chef and bring it back to it’s original glory.

We love almost every dish at Great Sage. The lunch portions tend to be very large and filling. Our favorite dinner dishes are the Americana and the Napoleon. For lunch, we love the Club Sandwich, the Portabella Flatbread Sandwich, and the Smokey Chipotle Burrito. The guacamole is great and the soups are either good or great, but never bad. The service is certainly not their best asset, but the food is still delicious and Great Sage is completely unique. Vegetarian or not, you will find something you love here.

Have been here twice. Went a year ago and loved it. Went again last week and was disappointed. The food was bland, the service rushed - it seemed like they didn’t have enough staff to handle the crowd (Sunday brunch). I’m hoping this was just an anomaly.
The menu has a nice variety and the food presentation is very colorful and appetizing. I’m not a vegetarian but I could become one if more restaurants offered the types of choices that Great Sage does.

As the weather cools, try the chili. Very very good!

Great Sage in Clarkville comes with no meat, but a mess of hype from places like the WPost and the Sun. It’s a vegetarian restaurant from the same people who own the Roots grocery, and the kitchen serves a seasonal menu of healthy, hearty food.
This is a beautiful place. It is a cuisine that pushes the vegetable flavors to the front. My advice is to focus on dishes that look like vegetables — the soups, the Mediterranean plate appetizer, the curries, the dishes that aren’t masquerading as something specific.
