I like this restaurant because it’s in Laurel, Md and anything that can survive that has got to be tougher than a snakehead fish from the toughest part of China.

Smokey Hollow is a hidden gem. It’s located in the new shopping center, behind the Exxon on John Hopkins road. Just off 29. It has been around for about a year.
The ribs here are world class. The have great flavor, the fat has been cooked off and they are moist. 3 different sauces are offered. The Brisket is very good also.
My daughters Graduation party was catered by smoky hollow. They supplied all the plates, napkins and plastic wear. It was ready on time, hot and delicious, and not to bad on the wallet.
Smokey hollow has friendly service, is clean, and has a small seating area with 3 tables and tall barstool type chairs.

The corn fritters at Smokey Hollow are extremely addictive. (But eat them while they’re fresh!)

Are they still in business? They looked kinda closed down when I passed by the other day? Anyone know?

The phone is disconnected and their website has been taken over by a generic occupant. I think the economy has killed the snakehead fish.

Smokey Hollow closed down by its owners but is being replaced in next month by Kloby’s BBQ - offspring of Woodlawn (Rolling Road) restarant. They are expanding and it will have some sit down room.

Never good to hear about good BBQ places shutting down. But, good to see (through the comment thread above) that another is coming in. Can’t have too many good barbecue joints. Trouble is, a lot of ‘em ain’t so great!
Keep spreading the word about the good ones!

Kloby’s has opened and expanded. I think it is terrific, although my wife isn’t a big fan. (We differ on whether ribs should fall off the bone.)
Also check out pit beef places like Uncle Grube’s in Elkridge, Pioneer in Woodlawn and the new Oakey’s in Ellicott City. This is a post about kabobs and BBQ in Howard County: http://howchow.blogspot.com/2009/01/kabobs-and-barbeque-in-howard-county.html
